Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the duration between two times?
Convert both times to minutes since midnight, subtract, and divide by 60. From 9:20 AM (560 min) to 4:05 PM (965 min) is 405 minutes = 6 hours 45 minutes = 6.75 decimal hours. The calculator does this instantly, including across midnight or across dates.
How many hours is 9 AM to 5 PM?
9:00 AM to 5:00 PM is exactly 8 hours. If a 30-minute unpaid lunch sits inside it, the paid duration is 7.5 hours.
How do I count hours across midnight?
When the end time is earlier than the start, add 24 hours to the end: 10:30 PM to 6:15 AM = 7 hours 45 minutes. This tool detects overnight ranges automatically — or enter dates for multi-day durations.
How do I turn a duration into decimal hours?
