Work Hours Calculator

Calculate hours worked between any two times — minus breaks, with overnight shifts handled — for one day or the whole week, in h:mm and payroll decimals.

Work Hours — Weekly — enter start time, end time and unpaid break for each day
Day Start End Break (min) Total

Type times like 9, 9:30a, 17:30. Breaks in minutes (30) or 0:45. Overnight shifts (10 PM → 6 AM) are handled automatically. Use + split for a second work period in a day.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1

Enter start and end time per day

Any format works: 7, 7:15a, 19:30. An end time earlier than the start is treated as an overnight shift.

  2. 2

    Subtract unpaid time

Type unpaid breaks in minutes. Paid rest breaks (5–20 min) belong in your hours — leave them out of the Break column.

  3. 3

    Read hours worked

Each day and the week total appear in h:mm and decimal. Decimal hours are what payroll uses: minutes ÷ 60.

  4. 4

    Optional: add a rate

Gross pay with overtime split appears once you enter an hourly rate.
